My Story
I decided to pursue theatre in a house full of football and softball coaches. Although I enjoy watching sports as well, even as a kid, I couldn't help but notice the performance athletes put on on the field. During high school, in spite of my sport--driven family, I decided that I wanted to pursue a degree in theatre performance. As I continue my education in theatre, I am learning new ways to tell stories through performance. I hope to continue learning and developing as an artist, so I can cooperate with others to show better stories to anyone willing to watch.
I currently teach in Plains Texas, where I have lead our one act troop to winning and placing top three in competitions. I have also had the honor to have performers win "best lead actress" in Bi-District competition. Our most successful play to date was The Drowning Girls by Beth Graham, Charlie Tomlinson, and Daniela Vlaskalic, which advanced to the Area round of the State of Texas UIL One-Act Play Competition. My students inspire me to get better every day, and I am truly blessed to have a dedicated group of young adults.
As a director, I have tried to push myself to direct variety of different styles. I've ranged from the melodramatic Lost in Yonkers by Neil Simon to the comedic 39 Steps by Patrick Barlow. My goal as an artist is to work with new Playwrights, Composers, and Actors to discover what makes audiences cry, laugh, or gasp in a live setting. I love collaboration in the rehearsal process, and I believe that most great moments in theatre spark when a conversation is had between artists in a rehearsal. I gravitate toward pieces that are based on real people, and I believe the future of theatre audiences will crave the opportunity to experience stories about modern cultures. I believe a good show makes an audience restless for more of the story, and I hope to be a part of a theatre culture that provides enough great stories to be an outlet for these audiences.
